A domain and hosting are two different services that work together to make your website visible online. You need both for your website and email to function correctly.
1. What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is your website’s address on the internet (for example: yourbusiness.co.za). It tells visitors where to find your website.
Think of it as your street address.
2. What is Web Hosting?
Web hosting is where your website’s files, images, databases, and emails are stored.
Think of hosting as the building where your website lives.
3. Why You Need Both:
- Domain - Tells visitors where to go
- Hosting - Holds your website and email
4. How They Connect (DNS)
Domains connect to hosting using DNS (Domain Name System). DNS tells the internet which server should load when someone types your domain.
To use Hostigo hosting, your domain must point to Hostigo’s nameservers.
5. Using a Domain with Hostigo
- Domain from Hostigo: It is connected automatically.
- Domain from another provider: You must change the nameservers to Hostigo’s.
You can find your nameservers inside the Client Area.
6. Adding Your Domain to Hosting
Once your domain points to Hostigo, you must add it in cPanel under Domains → Addon Domains so your website will load.
7. What About Email?
Your domain also controls your email. When your domain points to Hostigo, you can create email addresses like info@yourdomain.co.za.
